I don't have any affiliation with this company but I thought this was worthy.

12:48 am - Hello Everyone.

I just wanted say I've started a very unusual gaming site. I call it "The Obsidian Gate". Files, a chat room, message boards ect. I wanted to create a site around gamers that was a little different that what was out there. Check it out (signing up is required but it takes a whole two seconds and its free).

Thank you.

5:39 pm - Can you bring the funny?

Attention! Attention! GameCola is looking for new writers!

OK, so, actually, chances are you've never heard of GameCola, and you’re probably wondering why you should be “Attention! Attention!”ing right now. We're an online gaming newsletter with a vague focus on retro titles, and we've been around for just over four-and-a-half years. We get a quite modest 150-200 hits a day, though that always seems to be going up, at least slightly.

Here's the site if you wanna check it out: http://www.gamecola.net

What we have to offer you: Nothing! Ha-ha! Of course, that's just an absolutely hilarious joke; what we really have to offer you is this: Uhhh. An e-mail address? Yes! yourname@gamecola.net! It's two gigs! That's totally more than G-mail, isn't it? It was at one point, at any rate. And, if you wanted, you could put this as a resume and use me as a reference, as people have been actually known to do. Plus, you get the experience and satisfaction of writing for a gaming newsletter and actually having your stuff read. I swear we have readers!

We’re definitely not going to give you any money, though. At times we have free games to offer, but that’s pretty rare, and the free games are generally of the “Dragon’s Lair Ported to DVD for the Umpteenth Time” variety.

What we're looking for:

Review writers and columnists. Reviewers are more in demand right now, but we could use both. We've got a number of old columns just waiting to be taken over by fresh blood. These columns include "You Learn Something New Every Play," which is about the educational value of videogames/things you can learn from videogames; "Games for the Casual Gamer" which is pretty self-explanatory; and "Judging a Game by its Cover," which examines the coverart of today’s videogames, generally picking apart the one’s that aren’t terribly good. This is in addition to a few new ideas I've been tossing around in my handy dandy notebook.

Plus, really, if you've got an idea of your own, chances are I'd be willing to go with it. Unless your idea is “I wanna write my thoughts on gaming newzzzz~!!~!@#~~!,” because we’ve already got (this is a rough estimate) 600 people doing that.

Cartoonists. We’ve been sorely lacking in the Web comic department for years now, and I’m looking to make better on it. A comic, or even multiple comics, on the gaming industry, gamers, or anything remotely related to gaming would be totally keen.

With any new writers, cartoonists, and so forth we have coming aboard, there’s on particular thingie we’re looking for: A sense of humor. If you don’t got it, we’re not too interested. Just something to keep in mind.

Okay, that's about it! If you're interested please send any writing/comic samples you might have to pfranzen@gamecola.net, or just post a reply here and I'll drop you a line.

Thanks for your time!

- Paul Franzen

(x-posted all over the Intra-web; please don't maim me if you're reading this for the 12th time.)

4:11 am - GameTrades

Hey everyone.
I just wanted to let you guys know that I have created a game trading Community.
It's for all systems including the NES.
The community's main focus should be Trading Games, however selling and links to online sales will be allowed.

You never know when someone will want to trade a game you are looking to try.

3:52 pm - NSFSC (Not Safe For Squeamish Chowds)

Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.... re-enacted on "RBI Baseball."

Quite amusing. Probably moreso if you can stomach Vin Scully.

1:01 am - Ares No Tsubasa (Legendary Wings)

I thought I would introduce myself to the community. My name is Joe, and I am a fan of classic video games, but most of all Legendary Wings. I haven't played that game in years. However, I stumbled on a few fan sites dedicated to Legendary Wings.

My favorite game series of all would have to be Legend Of Zelda. Classic!

9:08 pm - So...

I didn't get the many responses I had hoped for but better than getting non at all, right? I'm glad you guys want this community to live on and I'm more than happy to oblige. So is anyone as excited about the new Zelda as I am?

12:30 pm - Choices

Well, There is no denying that this community isn't so lively anymore. And I've got a choice to make. I haven't really payed as much attention as I should on this fledgling community so I've got 3 choices.

1.)I could delete this community
2.)take the time to revive it
3.)give it up to someone else

I am unlikely to do the last suggestion unless you guys feel it's best. I'm more than willing to work on this community, but only if you're all going to be willing participates, if not it's best to let her rest. It doesn't have to be ONLY about NES, I welcome any gaming discussion. So what do you say?

12:55 am - making the rounds
reluctance A video clip of a vocal a capella group performing sonic renditions (sometimes with appropriate choreography) of several classic video game themes, largely from the NES. A bit flat, but about as good as you can hope for.

slightly off-topic (snes, come on) and pretty much totally random, but as this community is fairly consistently dead, i feel it's justified.

shadowrun 2 - anybody heard any confirmation or denial of the rumors?

10:37 pm - WTF Gaming community

title or description
Yeah, I made a community dedicated to those certain video/computer/arcade games that make you think "WTF?!" when you first played them. Those 'guilty pleasure' games that you couldn't let your elite gamer friends know you secretly enjoyed. Games with poor graphics, lousy sound, and 100% engrish translation. Those silly Tiger hand-held games! Also, it's about sharing those special memories you have about games now lost.
Anyone can join. Come and review, rant, rave, buy/sell, make photoshops of screenshots, and network.

And now I'll go and slink off into some dark alley....

4:55 pm - Hello!

I have a question, and I'm afraid it may be a...uhhhh...well, a stupid one frankly. Be kind and help a sista out, yo!

Ok, I seem to have a problem getting viruses from some ROM sites. This puts a serious damper on my gaming happy fun time and makes for a VERY pissed Ilex.

Has anyone else ever had this experience as well? Is this just one of those risks that you have to take?

I had good luck with coolrom.com until recently.

I find I'm paranoid now to dl stuff from anywhere.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

current mood: geeky
